Wanting a quick fix is a trauma response.

If you are easily swayed by a promise of this one thing will solve all your problems…

This supplement, this pill, this one exercise…

Basically every single thing you see here on social media…

All the one hit wonder promises you see…

They’re all tapping into your sense that you are not ok and you need something NOW to be ok.

Here’s the thing though, trauma creates a scarcity mindset. It creates a feeling of not having enough now.

Not enough okayness, not enough health, not enough mobility, not enough you name it.

One of the most satisfying things to witness as a trauma worker is when someone looks at me through their pain, through their grief, through their suffering and says “yes and, I am ok”.

It’s a beautiful moment when their system comes back to the present and they know that they have the resilience to deal with all the things that life has and will throw at us.

That sense of okayness lies deep in our souls and is not easily taken from us.

Also beware of any self-judgement you feel as you read this, if you’ve sought out quick fixes in the past. Judgement isn’t helpful. Instead here’s a reframe: your nervous system was seeking out a way to keep you safe. Our nervous system is always trying to keep us safe, even if sometimes it’s in maladaptive ways and I find that incredibly beautiful.

Forget quick fixes and look deeply inside yourself at your inherent resilience. You have survived everything that has ever happened to you and that is something very powerful.
